"Grams = Watts = effort saved or lost. It is a cruel but inevitable algorithm"
Maratona MIND. Made in California
Most folk have factored in that bikes became1/2 kilo heavier in exchange for disc-brakes. For most of us that 500/600 grams was purely transactional - we got back stiffer bikes, with bigger clearances, more versatile designs, later braking, more control etc, etc. Pure road-race bikes have suffered a little in this shuffle. And climbing bikes especially, where grams = watts = effort saved or lost. This is our fourth Open MIND California build, and like the others was conceived around a narrow remit. The climbs of around the Maratona, Etape, Marmotte etc. This will spend its whole life going up mountains fast and coming down the other side faster. And it is substantially under the UCI 6.8kg minimum weight limit.
But focus on this bike's weight sells it short. The ride is a little more direct than standard MIND and the build and finish is straight out of a Formula 1 laboratory. The MIND CA has taken minimalism to a new benchmark.
