Gen8 Trek Madone Project One

Generational Divide. A client caught up in the middle of a generational shift from Gen7 to Gen8

Generational Shift

We genuinely had no idea the Gen8 Madone was coming when it was announced at the beginning of July this year. Nobody seems to believe us when we say this. Gen7 was only a year old and as far as we new the team were testing a new Emonda. Then we got a call from Trek saying they wanted to launch the Gen8 at Cyclefit!

Meanwhile we still had a few Trek Project One Gen7 Madone bikes in production.
Including one for a client, who is a dial-it-up-to-11, fan of Wisconsin's Big-T. Oops. Luckily the other Gen7 P1 Madone clients were to-the-max power-rangers, with horsepower to burn, so their riding style still better matched the cartoon-pumped japes of the outgoing Gen7. But this still left our no1 Trek fan feeling a little deflated, even as he picked up his beautiful new Gen7 Madone. What to do?

The shape of things to come. Gen8 replaces Gen7 and a new concept of everyday-aero is born.

"Iso-flow, smooths air but divides humans"

Skipping a Generation

Our Trek fan is a former racer hoping to get back into the white-heat of competition. The new Gen8 does actually suit him better. It is just a superior fuselage for mixed-use high-level training/climbing/racing for most people - our Journal/Review from July, sums it up nicely. So we took a deep breath, went back to the drawing-board and designed him a replacement Gen8 Madone, to replace the barely ridden Gen7.

What our clients say

  • "I'm new to cycling so needed some support on finding a bike that would be right for me. Julian couldn't have been kinder or more supportive, he took time to find out what I wanted from my cycling and then looked closely at my physical structure to ensure that the bike is a comfortable fit for me. It really is a 5 star service and far exceeded my expectations."

    RM

    New Cyclist

  • "The personal service from both Phil and Julian is second to none. They have such a wealth of experience in fitting that they can almost tell at a glance if something is just a little off. It felt as though it didn't matter how long it took to get the best position possible - even for an amateur cyclist like myself. Can't recommend them enough."

    Susan

    Cyclist

  • "A different level of professionalism! Super friendly and they really cared."

    CB

    Regular cyclist

  • "Hey Julian and Phil, I hope you are both well. I just completed a 21 hour week on my new 165mm cranks and I am in love. They feel so so great! Thank you for all your help. I’ve never felt so comfortable on my bike before. All the best, Hannah"

    Hannah Barnes

National Champion / Professional Bike Rider

  • "I tried the shorter cranks today and I like them - it feels like it's less stress for the back and it seems easier to ride higher cadence. In the end I had a good Tour with no back problems. Thanks for your help!"
