New Trek Emonda SLR 9

Trek Emonda. Only Less.

Light, Stiff, Compliant. Pick all three! The new Emonda SLR 9 may cause Keith Bontrager to re-think his famous aphorism! The Trek Emonda was always a data-driven tool. Its credentials always based on weight to stiffness numbers that had the world scratching its head and owners laughing out loud as they headed for the mountains. It really is that good. And so it has taken the mighty R&D Team & SLR carbon manufacturing division in Wisconsin, three whole years to re-imagine the bike that shocked our industry. The Emonda was and is that incredible. We well remember having to fit heavy weights under the bottle-cage mounts to The Trek Factory Racing bikes at Team Camp, to get them to limbo under the UCI 6.8kg weight limit. At around 690 grams the original Emonda shifted the whole bicycle weight expectation curve down a notch. Now for 2018 Trek has re-imagined the Emonda at 50 grams lighter, stiffer around the BB and headtube, but more compliant in the vertical axis. The numbers are compelling:

  • Weight (g) - 56 cm  - 640 (g) New Emonda SLR, 690 (g)  v's 690 (g) Previous Emonda SLR
  • Full Frame Stiffness (lower = stiffer)  - 3.55 - New Emonda SLR v's 4.00 Previous Emonda SLR
  • Head Tube Stiffness (Nm/Deg) (higher = stiffer) - 88 New Emonda SLR v's 86.5 Previous Emonda SLR
  • Tour BB Stiffness (N/mm) (higher = stiffer) - 56 New Emonda SLR v's 52 Previous Emonda SLR
  • Vertical Compliance (N/mm) - 165 New Emonda SLR v's 162 Previous Emonda SLR

And the pinnacle exponent of this world beating performance fuselage is the Emonda SLR 9, made in USA.
